MPs - making points heard!

Both Danny Chambers MP and Liz Jarvis MP have taken the time to write directly to the Leader of Hampshire County Council, Nick Adams-King, in regards to the numerous cuts and changes to buses in the Winchester and Eastleigh area.

They both feel very strongly about these issues.

Danny raises some good points in his letter, including one which he touched on further in a video released on Facebook:

"With fuel prices surging, it has never been more important to have reliable and affordable public transport....Cutting bus services is really short-sighted and it actually will cost us more money in the long run if people cannot maintain their independence and live at home, especially in rural areas."

Please see below a copy of Liz Jarvis' letter to Nick Adams-King:

Liz has highlighted that services in Eastleigh have been "repeatedly withdrawn" and drives home that "these services were vital...for hospital, work, college, shops, see friends and family". She also mentions that strengthening the commerical and urban areas does not help the rural areas of the county.

There is concern amongst constituents that there could be more cuts to come. One local resident, Peter Jacobs, commented:

"The more services are cut, the fewer people use them, and then further cuts are then justified" 

We can see that our MPs have also noticed the pattern of rural services being affected negatively and yet urban areas seem to be benefitting.

There is no better time than to raise awareness of this, and just how important our rural services are. The bus services should be improved across the county, not just in our towns!
