About Us

We are a group of local volunteers who are campaigning for improved bus services in the Winchester and Eastleigh area - specifically around Allbrook, Colden Common and Twyford.

From reductions to timetables, changes to routes (the 69) and removal of a complete bus service (the 61), the Eastleigh to Winchester area has been impacted severely.

We have come together to try and improve the situation and spread awareness of what has happened.

Our Aims

  • To raise awareness of cuts and changes to bus services and the impact they are having

  • To take a community led approach - we are local volunteers listening to your views on what is important and acting on them

  • To tackle further proposed cuts or changes to bus services that may impact the area

  • To advocate improvements to existing bus services

  • To speak up for those who are unable to voice their views on the wider stage.

  • To find solutions to the loss of the 61 bus service.

  • To heighten community engagement

  • To help improve social mobility and fight social isolation through campaigning and the results of the campaign.

Why we are campaigning

The cancellation of the 61 bus not only touches those along the route in Winchester, Twyford, Colden Common, Allbrook and Eastleigh, but also those who were connected through it.

From Eastleigh, buses and trains to further afield, such as Romsey, Salisbury, Chandlers Ford, and Southampton, are now no longer easily reached. A direct route from Eastleigh to Winchester hospital has been lost.

A lot of people who are affected by this do not drive, so they have no option but to take expensive taxis. Some of those affected have mobility issues, so cannot travel independently without this bus service.

Re-directing the route of the 69 as it enters Winchester, from travelling along St Cross Road and Jewry Street, to instead travelling on the motorway and only stopping the the bottom of the town (The Broadway) has had a big impact too.

It means that anyone wanting to reach the top of Winchester (banks, the Railway Station etc)now has to scale the large hill, or catch another bus, amongst other issues.

We want to give a voice to all of those affected, whether they are a teenager who cannot get to college, an employee who cannot get to work, or an elderly person who now cannot live their life to the fullest of their ability.
